2011 Leaf Collection Program
The Salisbury Township Department of Public Works will be conducting its leaf collection program starting Monday, October 24, 2011 and continuing through mid-December (weather permitting). We will start in the Fifth Ward (west) and work eastward. The Township crews generally cover the Township several times. Please note that the large number of trees in the Township make it impossible to guarantee a set pick up date for any street in the Township on any given day.
Residents are asked to place their leaves along the edge of the road prior to the start of pickup, which will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If leaves are not in place when the crews go by, they will not be picked up until the next trip through that neighborhood. No return trips will be made to pick up leaves.
Please do not place pieces of wood, steel, rocks, concrete, trunks, etc. on the leaves in an attempt to hold them down. These objects cause extensive damage to the leaf machine and place them out of service at substantial expense to the taxpayers in both time and money.
In order to pick up leaves by mechanical means, it is necessary to dump the contents of the plastic bags or other containers into the gutter areas. Crews will not empty bags or containers; this is the responsibility of the residents. Branches, shrubbery, etc. will not be picked up. They will be left behind and are the responsibility of the property owner for removal and disposal.
To facilitate the vacuum leaf pickup, please keep all vehicles away from the area where leaves are piled. The crews will not rake leaves from under or between parked cars.
Your cooperation is appreciated. If you have any questions, please call the Department of Public Works at (610) 797-4000.
2011 Curbside Grass Collection:
This year, curbside grass collection will be conducted by the Township's hauler, Waste Management, beginning May 1, 2011. Last day of grass collection will be July 1, 2011. Residents should place their grass clippings out on their second collection day in an open rigid container or open topped bag (no other waste mixed in). If your second pick up day is Saturday, your grass only will be picked up on Thursdays. The Board of Commissioners recently decided not to retain the curbside grass collection option in the renewal contract with Waste Management which will commence on July 1, 2011. Other possible alternatives for grass collection are being explored. More information to come.

RECYCLING
Set out on your first collection day

SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING
The Township is now participating in single-stream recycling. Waste Management will utilize a single dedicated truck for the collection of all recyclables. It is a standard garbage truck with a placard on either side indicating “RECYCLING”. With single stream recycling, they now have the ability to commingle all recyclables, taking a greater quantity in a larger truck, thus making fewer trips to the recycling facility.
ALL Recyclables (paper and containers) can be mixed together in one container which makes it easier to recycle and less expensive to collect. Put all your recyclables in your recycling bin or in another open topped container marked “RECYCLING”. Do not put out recycling materials in plastic bags.
The following materials are recyclable:
- Newspaper & inserts
- Magazines & catalogs
- Junk mail, envelopes, file folders, shredded paper

- Metal food cans (tin/steel); metal lids
- Metal pots and pans, small metal appliances
The following materials are NOT recyclable:
- Food waste, garbage
- Flammable, hazardous or toxic materials, paint
- Medical waste, syringes, propane tanks, aerosol cans
- Ceramics, dishes, coffee cups, drinking glasses
- Glass cookware/bake ware (Pyrex, Vision Ware, etc.)
