Find That Snow Covered Fire Hydrant

For Immediate Release

Salisbury Township, Allentown, Pa.: February 17, 2010
It is snowing again! Do you know where your fire hydrant is? The recent snow storms have left many of the fire hydrants completely or partially covered in Salisbury Township. Most winters bring lighter snow falls and our Public Works Department and our volunteer fire fighters have had time to clear the snow from around the fire hydrants. This year is different. With the heavy snow volumes, the Public Works Department has its hands full clearing our roadways and our volunteers are busy responding to help our residents during emergencies. We are requesting the assistance of our residents. Please find that buried fire hydrant in your neighborhood (the marker should be visible above the snow). Grab that shovel or start up that snow blower and spend ten minutes digging out that fire hydrant. If a fire event were to occur, fire fighters would lose valuable time attempting to locate and dig out a buried fire hydrant. Clearing snow or ice from a hydrant could make a difference in the amount of damage done by a fire. Help us to help you. Public safety is everyone's responsibility.
